Wilco van Schaik, CEO of N.E.C. Nijmegen, asked us in mid-2021 to help him with a very special project that had to remain completely secret.
Now, Wilco usually comes to us for special or creative projects. So we were already preparing ourselves. But this request had an even higher level of urgency, with even greater stakes, as he put it.
The explanation was clear: “I want to put the men who have ensured the continuity of our beautiful club in the spotlight, thank them, honour them, give them a special place in the stadium and present them with a unique keepsake.”

A Special REQUEST FOR A SPECIAL GROUP
Well… that was something.
First of all, for us at ROSH, it was an honour to be asked for such a request, but what do you give men who already have everything and are not easily impressed?
Men who have made huge sacrifices. After all, they gave up their shares in the Eredivisie football club from Nijmegen to make the club healthy and future-proof again.
We decided… We’ll give them emotion.

from the Goffert TO the heart
A memento of times past.
A memento that literally shone light in dark times.
But also a source of energy.
Straight from the Goffert,
And… straight ‘uut het Nijmeegse hert’.
At that time, N.E.C. was upgrading the stadium lighting. That’s how the idea arose to do something with the old stadium lamps. Something with those stadium lamps…
A statement… Something practical… A keepsake…
a piece of art.

From relic to icon
The concept with those stadium lamps perfectly matched the analogy, emotion and nostalgia of this project.
The lamps represent the more than 20 years that you have been active for your club. A period in which the group of 12 shareholders and benefactors kept the club alive, in which they literally kept the lights on.
These lamps have seen it all: the successes, the lows… from fire in the Gaanderij, relegation, loss to the collapse of the away stand. And now and then… a small quarrel 😊
But also magnificent goals, wins, celebrations, promotion, and even European football. Man, oh man, these lamps have witnessed it all, just like this group of titans.

Crafting an Art piece
So we had to do something with those stadium lamps…
After securing a few heavily damaged and weathered giants, we immediately started designing and created a beautiful artwork. On paper and in our heads…
But who would really bring this to life? Who would make something truly beautiful out of it?
After some wanderings past woodworkers, artists and other creative people, I stumbled upon I Am Recycled. They breathe new life into old material or give it a new purpose.
And… they’re also located on the Hatertseweg, a stone’s throw from the Goffert.
A match made in heaven.

THE RESULT
After months of slogging, refining, testing and redesigning, the end result turned out better than expected. A work of art in honour of an important group of benefactors, made especially for them.
The piece is made of powder-coated steel, with working soft golden lighting that can also be dimmed. The four pillars are shaped like the stadium’s roof supports and represent the four iconic light masts of the Goffert, of course featuring the illustrative ‘Eniesee’ eagle.
Each piece is provided with a unique number and a thank-you text from the club straight to the heart.
The golden version has remained in the stadium as a tribute to their heroic deeds and symbolically shines light on everyone who enters the Goffert.
A unique memento for a unique group of investors.
